Hello, World
Welcome to the A. K. Lim newsletter!
I Have A Newsletter Now!
Hi! If you’re reading this, I’ll assume you already know me in some capacity or another, whether it be family, friend, Twitter mutual, reader, etc. but to cover our basis, here’s a quick introduction:
I’m Aly, writer of YA Romance, Fantasy, and SciFi novels (and sometimes all three at once). Most of my life has been defined by reading and writing in some shape or form, so it’s very nearly my entire personality at this point. To that end, I’ve always wanted to have a newsletter or blog for writing thoughts—I even started a few on various platforms over the years—but never really bit the bullet and posted anything. That changes today!
Why Now?
I’ve always been a writer at heart. But it wasn’t until (very) recently that I felt any kind of external motivation to start putting together a newsletter, when certain…vague things occurred and reminded me that, hey, I should probably do that…soon.
Suffice to say that I imagine I’ll have at least one post to share in the coming weeks, and I wanted a platform where I could do so quickly and easily! Substack has been a place where I’ve followed other authors and publishing pros for a while, so it felt like a natural place to jump in with my own newsletter.
What (And Who) This Newsletter Is For
I imagine, at least at first, that this newsletter will primarily be for fellow writers at any point in their publishing journey, from initial drafting all the way up through submission and (hopefully) publication. I’ve been writing for a long time, and dabbled in developmental editing, too, so I hope to share a few insights and tips that might help out other writers and aspiring authors out there.
I’m also hoping to be able to use this newsletter as a log or diary of sorts as I go through my own publishing journey, chronicling the highs and lows of the many, many hoops we writers have to leap through to get anywhere in the biz. This industry can feel like staring at a brick wall sometimes, so if I can play any part in making it a bit more transparent, that’s a big win for me.
And, when the time comes, I hope at least some of y’all will stick around and want to hear about the projects I’m working on, from deleted scenes to character bios and more!
If That’s All Cool With You, Consider Subscribing!
I’m figuring this all out as I go along. Between a day job, writing, editing, and caring for a brand new, bouncin’ baby boy, I’m going to try my best to carve out some time to populate this substack with valuable (or at least entertaining) information.
PLEASE feel free to let me know if there are any topics you’d want to read about. As a highly qualified, professional yapper, I welcome any and every opportunity to write about something you want to read about!
And with that…thanks for reading, and I hope you decide to stick around!
